Dwarf hamsters do not get wet tail but they can suffer from diarrhea.
What is it?
It is a stress-related bacterial disease which is very contagious.
Wet tail is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the gut.
Causes
Many things can contribute to the onset of wet tail:
- stress
- unsanitary conditions
- exposure to another sick hamster
These things don't cause wet tail, but can lower the immune system and make a hamster more likely to contract wet tail!
How to treat:
The first step if you notice (in combination)
- a seemingly wet tail
- foul odor
- watery stools
- loss of appetite
- aggression
- other changes
