How to Keep Your Hamster Cool in the Midst of the Summer Heat

How to Keep Your Hamster Cool in the Midst of the Summer Heat

We just launched cooling tiles in our shop that you can check out here, but here are a few other tips and tricks to making sure your hamster stays cool!

1.  Should I put an ice cube in my hamster's water dish?

---> No, you should not! While this sounds like it could be a great way to help out your furry friend, we do not recommend putting an ice cube in their dish! You can keep some cool water in the fridge for your hamster instead!

2. What bedding is the safest?

---> Your regular bedding that you use for your hamster's enclosure is fine, but you can also try adding some hamster-safe soil as a substrate option! Soil holds a bit of moisture that can help slightly dampen your hamster's fur and it tends to hold cooler temperature better than other substrates!

3. Should I freeze my hamster's hides?

--->   You could do this! Safe things to freeze are treat/food mixes, hides, bedding, and sand! We don't recommend freezing anything ceramic since it would be too much of a temperature change! However, we DO recommend having ceramic items in your hamster's enclosure to help them maintain a cool temperature!

4. What else can I do to keep my hamster cool?

---> You could add a fan in your hamster's room to keep air circulation going! You could also run a paper towel under your sink, freeze it, and set it on top of your hamster enclosure to cool it down!

We hope this tip of the month helps your hamster stay cool this summer😎
