What are the stages of a hamsters life?

What are the stages of a hamsters life?

Hamsters only live for about 2-2.5 years.

For a hamster to live this long is like them living to 100+ in human years!

Ethically bred hamsters usually live longer because they are bred for longevity and are not keep in high risk areas for common illnesses.

0-3 weeks        Newborn-Toddler
Can you believe that!?

Just like newborns, hamsters start bald and fully dependent on their mom.
By the time they're a "toddler," they become more able to do things for themselves.

4 weeks-1 year       Teenager-Adult
All grown up!

At this point, hamsters start developing their own personalities.
They are fully mature, have strong instincts andare considered "middle age"

1 Year-2.5 years      Adult-Elder
End of life cycle

At this point, hamsters can start obtaining elderly traits such as sagging skin, less mobility and overall start to slow down

It does go by so fast!

Though we don't get so much time with our furry friends, the time we DO get with them is SO precious!

Them living to 2 years and beyond is SUCH a blessing-- not one to take for granted!

My biggest advice is to FULLY savor the time you get with your hamster...

EVEN the initial adjustment period-- don't rush through it!
