What are Hybrids?

Campbell Hamsters and Winter White Hamsters are the only two of the five domesticated species of hamsters that are capable of interbreeding, and their offspring (aka babies) from this pairing is called a first-generation-hybrid.

If a horse and a donkey were bred together, this would result in a hybrid known as a mule.

If a tiger and a lion were bred together, this would result in a hybrid known as a liger.

Most hybrid animals are infertile, and unable to produce offspring, but sadly, this isn’t the case with hybrid hamsters. They are very fertile and are able to continue producing hybrid offspring. Hybrids are known for having more health problems, and a shorter life span.
